Create an email link within the report...

Hello...

I have a column of data on my report that contains an email address. Is it possible to format this so that the person running the report can just click on the link and have that action launch their email program...like Outlook?

thanks for any help

Hi Will - Yes, you can use expressions to build "mailto:" URLs, and set these for the "jump to" value in the navigation tab for the field properties.

CRAXDRT.Application.OpenReport - VERY slow

I have a CR 8.0 report that's been running against MySQL through VB6 for several years now, without ANY problems.

Just a few weeks ago we changed to new servers, and all my reports are running just fine, except one, which also happens to be the biggest (~2.9M). The report is running from a network drive, although I've tried it on a local drive with no real difference in perforamnce. Here's the code I'm using to open the report:

Dim cr As New CRAXDRT.Application
Dim report As CRAXDRT.report

Set report = cr.OpenReport(fName)

Again, nothing special. This has run quite well until now. The query itself that the report generates is quite large, but executes against the MySQL server in around .2 seconds, which isn't nearly the delay I'm seeing.

This call to OpenReport takes close to 20 seconds. I'm sure this has something to do with the server change, but without information, there isn't anything that I can do do fix it...

Any ideas?I forgot to add: The report runs very fast in the Crystal Report IDE.|||Dear ejj,

Have you by any chance found the solution yet ?

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem as you described. We recently migrated our NT4 domain to a WIN2003 domain (with some new servers) and after that some reports have become slow when calling the openreport function.

The only difference is that I'm using CR9 and the report is also opening slow in the CR Developer.

Best regards,
TheDaoka|||Dear ejj,

Well, I fixed it, but never found what the problem was.

Thourgh trial and error I removed stuff from the report until it got faster. There was a subreport in the report that I deleted and the whole thing spead up. I then re-created the SAME subreport with the SAME query and magically everything got faster.

I can't explain it. Same database, same data, same schema, etc. But, it works now.|||Hi Ejj,

I just found this in the latest hotfixes for CR9:

ADAPT00212276 Patch ID: 35846238
Description:
When a report contains subreports that are imported through UNC paths, the report is slow to open when the network
connection is down.
Crystal Reports checks to see if the UNC pathname exists, before it checks to see if the user wants to re-import the
subreport. This causes an uncecessary delay in opening the report.
New Behavior:
The order of operations when opening a report is reversed: the new algorithm checks the pathname after the user
chooses to re-import.

-------------------

I have some reports with subreports which were imported from a server that no longer exists.

I installed the latest CR dll's and now it's back to normal.

Best regards,
TheDaoka|||TheDaoka -

Thanks for the information! Don't know why I never came across that in my search, but that sounds exactly like the problem I was having.

Glad you found it! Thanks!

Crashing server (Event ID 333)

Hello,
We experience problems with machines running SQL Servers 2005 in our
production environment. This problem is rather connected to OS or network
settings but hopefully someone here can help. The error below appears several
times in a minute and leads to crash of a machine.
We have clustered environment Windows Servers 2003 SP2 x64 + SQL Server 2005
SP2. This problem started to occur after installation of automatic updates
(bunch of security updates).
Has anyone solved similar issue? Could someone help to track down the problem?
Many thanks

|||Hello,
I agree with Kevin it's best taht you call MS PSS for memory dump analysis
on this server crash issue. For a complete list of Microsoft Product
Support Services phone numbers, please go to the following address on the
World Wide Web:

Also, you may want to use add/edit the following registry key to see if it
helps
In the new HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session
Manager\Configuration Manager subkey, configure the following entry:
Name: RegistryLazyFlushInterval
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 60 (decimal)
You may try to increase Windows paging file size to see if it's helpful.
It's possible that this kind of issue occurs when there are some issues
related to server hardware driver. For example, if the operating system
cannot satisfy the contiguous memory blocks under the 4 GB space, the
server may become unresponsive.

CR11 and ASP.NET (VS2003)

Hi there,
While running the report on the web we expect full error message to be displayed but instead whenever report fails CrystalReportViewer always say

Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 17001 ] Failed to retrieve data from the database

When I run this report in design mode I get correct error message that is returned from Sybase Stored procedure. "Invalid Parameter Value passed"

Is there anyway I can make CrystalReportViewer to display exact error message returned from SP?

Thanks a lot

cpu quota / resource management

Hello *,

Is there a way to restrict resource consumption by user or connection?

If I execute some long running reports my complete server slowes down. I'd like to assign this reports only limited resources.

Thanks,

Michael

You can configure database mirroring for the target database in your production SQL instance and create snapshot on the mirror server (your backup SQL instnace) on different machine. The principle system can be considered as your normal OLTP business system and the mirror server can be used to support your reporting system. Since the reporting system will be run on differet SQL Server instance on different machine, it will not hurt your normal business onthe principle server. HTH|||Really your easy options are limited to setting query govenor which is time based not resource based.|||Thanks for the hint, "SET QUERY_GOVERNOR_COST_LIMIT" is useful in this context. Additional question:-
Is there a way to cancel running querries? For instance by issuing a "cancel" call from a seperate thread?

Thanks,
Michael

The time stamp counter of CPU on scheduler id 3 is not synchronized with

I have seen a lot of postings about this, but have not been lucky to stop

Do we know what the latest is on this and what the actual fix is if any ?

CPU is 99% used by sqlserver

Hi all ,
I have an issue hope you can help:
We have 1 server SQL server 2000 ( Small business )
running with a Pentiem 3 + 1 Go RAM. And we have only 3
Workstation like clients.
Since severals weeks, the CPU od the server is used for
99% and all client request using ACCESS is very slow.
Do you know what happened?
Thanks a lot for your help.
CanCan,
You need to monitor the CPU usage using perfmon counters concurrently
running sql profiler to see whats happening in the background.

I have another question , i hope that you can help me.
My company has SQL Server 7 and clients using Access to
extract Data from Sql Server.
So my question is:
I would like to migrate all existing applications to Linus
Red Hat , i wonder if we can exporte all data to Postgress
or to My SQL or to DB2 ( Linux ) and i wonder if there are
the same product like ACCESS running with Linux:
Many thank.

several servers. It was a virus. I believe it was slammer. The
characteristics of it are similar. Rebooting would recover the CPU for a

If you don't have an SA password...I would bet that it is slammer.

CPU 100%

Hi guys
My SQL Server 2000 SP3 have for no apparent reason begun running 100% cpu
and it does not drop off.
All the CPU is used by the SQLServer service.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Regards
Jonas
It seem to be our virus protection that triggered the SQLServer service to
use 100%CPU. Once virus protection was disabled CPU usage dropped to normal
level.

CPU 100%

Hello
We have running our server-client application on line. The server Win2000
is showing (Tasks Administrator) use of CPU 100%. SQL Server (process
sqlservr.exe) is the great consumer of memory. I am afraid a collapse in
the server.
What do you suggest me to solve or to mitigate this matter?
THXS
Hello Harvey,
Are you still able to connect to SQL Server? If you can, connect to SQL
Server using Query Analzyer as a sysadmin. Execute the command 'sp_who2
active'. This will show you all the active connections in SQL Server.
That will give you an idea which connection(s) is consuming all the CPU
time.
I also recommend reviewing the following article on using Profiler and
Performance monitor to troubleshoot performance issue.

Run a trace to find out what SQL Server operations are running. Do you have
the likes of autoshrink on? Are you indexes correctly defined? Are
statistics upto date?

CPU @ 100%

I have SQL 2000 and have been running it for quite some time without any
problems. A few days ago I have noticed that it seems to be using all the
available CPU and it really slowing down the server. I cant understand why
it is doing this.
I have tried stopping and starting and also restarting the computer but
nothing works.
Does anyone know how I could work out why it is doing this?It could be the slammer virus. Are you on sp3? Also, is it the SQL Server
process that is using 100% CPU?
