Create a time dimension

Hi !
I have a question : my dataBase contains a table which have an attribute startTime.
The startTime give the day and the hour of an event.
I want to 'display' the event for a period time (one day or one week, or between to date...).
But I don't know how to do... Because if I add a dimension with this startTime, and in my report I put parameter with two date, I can only choose in the date exit in the attribut StartTime, but as I have a lot, an with a small range, I can't display all days...

I would like that the user choose a date as 27/03/07 and the report display all event in this day...
but I don't know what to do, because StartTime is as 27/03/07 10:50:42...

Can anybody help me ? Thank you !!!

In a named calculation(data source view in SSAS2005) or in a view/table(AS2000) you can try this: http://blog.mike-obrien.net/PermaLink,guid,f3363145-8753-4604-8314-855012a00400.aspx

This works with TSQL

|||Hi Thomas,
Thank you for your answer...
But I have a problem not with named calculation but with the dimension, I didn't understand how to do !
As I explain last time, I have a table with a dateTime value, so I have a list of a lot of event with all this dateTime value, I want to organize them by day, So i want a time dimension that give just the day (as your answer) and which it is link with my dateTime, for example I have 5 event the 25/03/2007, 14 event the 26/03/2007...
so I don't what to do...
May I have to create a time dimension from server and my TimeDate are linked to this table ?

|||

Hello! Maybe I am wrong but I understand your problem as that you have time fragments on your date columns in the fact table and that you would like to change that?

The link I have sent you have examples that transform dates with 2007-03-29:13:30:06:01 to 2007-03-29:00:00:00 . If you build a time dimension with a datetime-column and you enter 2007-03-29 you will get 2007-03-29:00:00:00 in that column and a match between the time dimension and the fact table on dates.

Crashing server (Event ID 333)

Hello,
We experience problems with machines running SQL Servers 2005 in our
production environment. This problem is rather connected to OS or network
settings but hopefully someone here can help. The error below appears several
times in a minute and leads to crash of a machine.
We have clustered environment Windows Servers 2003 SP2 x64 + SQL Server 2005
SP2. This problem started to occur after installation of automatic updates
(bunch of security updates).
Has anyone solved similar issue? Could someone help to track down the problem?
Many thanks

|||Hello,
I agree with Kevin it's best taht you call MS PSS for memory dump analysis
on this server crash issue. For a complete list of Microsoft Product
Support Services phone numbers, please go to the following address on the
World Wide Web:
http://support.microsoft.com/directory/overview.asp
Also, you may want to use add/edit the following registry key to see if it
helps
In the new HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session
Manager\Configuration Manager subkey, configure the following entry:
Name: RegistryLazyFlushInterval
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 60 (decimal)
You may try to increase Windows paging file size to see if it's helpful.
It's possible that this kind of issue occurs when there are some issues
related to server hardware driver. For example, if the operating system
cannot satisfy the contiguous memory blocks under the 4 GB space, the
server may become unresponsive.

CPU Using - Audit Logout

I have a VP app. that uses some queries from SQL Server 2000.
I'm noticing in SQL Profiler that the event "Audit Logout" is using alot of
cpu at times.
How can I decrease these CPU times ?Keep the connection open.

this is true of duration, and I am pretty sure it is true of CPU. It is not
a perfect addition of all of the other rows, so I might be wrong, but I am
sure that the logout operation is not one of the more costly operations.
However, if applications are making and breaking too many connections, it
can become an issue.

connection so whilst it may appear high it should be roughly the sum of the
CPU the connection used executing queries etc. Thus it being high or low
does not mean much, it's generally more interesting to look at those
statements that consumed most of the resources during the lifetime of the
connection if you see what I mean
